THE ARTISTIC PROCESS

Pop art is an art movement that arose in the late 1950s in England and the United States. The works in this direction are experienced as a counter-reaction to the abstract art expression that dominated the art field in the USA in the 1940-50s, and use motifs from popular culture such as cartoons, advertising, mass-produced products.

The art direction challenges creativity and the attitudes towards so-called "high art" and uses motifs and ideas from the commercial and the increasing consumption of people in the present day. Everyday objects are presented as works of art in themselves, and photographs and familiar motifs are used in a different setting, to create a new expression and a new meaning.

The artist Morten Hjertø creates unique works by reusing materials from industry such as cardboard, glass and metal. This approach not only gives each work a unique and authentic character, but it also minimizes waste and adds an extra dimension to the art's message.

The artistic process behind the production of the images is a fascinating journey through creativity and sustainability. Hjertø's choice of cardboard, glass and metal gives a raw and industrial aesthetic that reflects the darkness and gloom of consumer society.

Hjertø creates iconic motifs and figures, preferably with references to classic films and post-punk. Inspired by the dark and gloomy of industrial society, these images capture both aesthetic beauty and a deeply felt message about our consumer culture and its consequences.
